Your First Pet

Many pet owners require helpful information for looking after their dog, especially if you are a first time pet owner.
It is usually pretty frustrating if you don’t know where to start in training your dog the basic principles. You and
your pet should get to know one another and expectations of each other. Your new puppy should realize that he
will have to give you a signal when he has to go outside for a pee, and you will in time get to know his
signal and respond immediately.

We’re very fortunate to have 2 loving and smart dogs in our home, one is a small Poodle and the other is
older mixed breed-German Shepherd/Golden Lab. Both of these dogs have developed some awesome understanding of
us over time and they are naturally gentle and smart dogs who are a joy to have in the home with us.

If you speak to your dogs on a regular basis, they respond to you and they seem to be aware what you are talking
about. I had asked Rex- the older dog to get me a beer in the fridge, he knew what I wanted as he
headed towards the fridge but he couldn’t open the door. This is only an example, I wouldn’t expect him to
really do this for me, but I just wanted to demonstrate to my friends that dogs do understand their owners.

Dogs will protect your household if they have to, I don’t suggest that you teach your canine violent
habits, it is natural tendency for them to protect you as their master and friend. Rex had always been
my son’s lifeguard at the shore, he would stop him from going any further into the water if he felt it was going
to endanger him.

If you are just starting out to train your dog, you need to understand that you need patience and time with
them, for us to learn anything, it takes time as well. Were creatures of habit and we learn through
repitition and observing. Most habits which we have, we’d learned from our parents. Whether it was through
a loving observation and an actual teaching, that is how we’ve become who we are today. It’s the same with
challenging habits and bad family teachings or no teachings at all- it is precisely what we learn which is the same for
your pets.

So knowing that you have a responsibility to your pets and taking that seriously is an understanding that
all pet owners really should have before even considering taking a dog into your home.
I have developed this blog to help you find the best resources for helping you to train your dog properly.

Please share any tips or stories in this blog or supply comments if you like.
