Most businesses start small usually exploiting those markets which large firms may not be able to exploit profitably due to higher overheads. Advertising presents the most persuasive possible promoting message to the right prospects for the product or services in firms for the lowest possible cost. Advertising tends to relate to matters of sales and marketing; however one should be able to choose the right form of advertising to avoid wasted advertising.

The target audience is very important as it helps in knowing what kind of people are most likely to use your service, for example if one is selling beauty products the main target group will be saloons, cosmetic stores and beauty parlours. With this in mind you will be able to know which types of audiences are most important, how to reach them and who to reach as the organization grows.

In developing countries where the general access to resources is limited and therefore limited to those that take up entrepreneurial opportunities, smaller firms have been viewed as a vehicle for the redistribution of economic power. On a different level the economic power relationships between developed and developing countries are likely to be altered as entrepreneurial activity in developing countries reduces the dependency of this countries on aid from developed countries.

In promoting a small business the use of brochures, business cards and fliers is a good way to promote a firm as this kind of advertising are is not generally expensive and they are easily accessible. It is not important to always hire a professional thinking that he is the only one who will know how to catch people’s attention.
