The internet strikes again – Hollywood Video closing stores

Showing once again the emerging marketing and delivery clout of the internet, national video rental chain Hollywood Video has announced the closure of over 1,500 stores nationwide, including one in Carson City.

The Hollywood Video outlet in a strip mall at William and Stewart Street will shut its doors in a month to six weeks. It’s part of a bankruptcy arrangement to help the company re-arrange its assets and liabilities. The fall of Hollywood Video and other video outlets is said to be due to the rapid rise of internet movie rental services like NetFlix and Blockbuster as well as Redbox video kiosks that offer one night video rentals for a dollar.
