Yet another employee of Sheriff Ken Furlong has decided to run against the boss in June’s primary election.
Patrol Deputy Bob Guimont announed Saturday night at a gathering of supporters at Empire Ranch Golf Course that in tough economic times it’s time to re-allocate personnel to more efficiently deliver public safety to Carson City residents.
Guimont,42, a 20 year veteran of law enforcement, said if elected he would do all that is possible to not only reduce gang activity in Carson City, but also to eliminate it.
He would also be tougher on drug dealers through more extensive use of drug dogs.
By re-assigning certain personnel Guimont promised to create a crime victim advocate officer to ease the strain on victims as they move through the often tedious investigation process.
If elected Guimont also indicated he would trim costs by eliminating high ranking officers’ use of sheriff’s vehicles to and from home.
Guimont began his career in 1990, joining the Carson City Sheriff’s Office in 1995. He has worked in the jail, on street patrol, SWAT and has been a field training officer and assistant range master. Guimont is married with four children and two grand children.
Guimont ran unsuccessfully against then first-time Sheriff’s candidate Ken Furlong in 2002.
Also seeking the top law enforcement job in Carson City is Captain Bob White along with Sheriff Ken Furling who is seeking his third term.
White is running on a “trim the budget” campaign by using retired cops as hourly workers to reduce overtime and eliminate benefits and retirement costs. He also vows to get tougher on gangs.
He also would improve the department’s Neighborhood Watch Program.
Sheriff Furlong thus far has emphacized continuing his commitment to effectively using his personnel to keep the community safe with an eye on the budget. He said he’s proud of his department’s performance, crime is down, and gang activity is being effectively suppressed. But he quickly adds that no law enforcement agency, from small towns to major cities, has eliminated gangs altogether. He said Carson City is being well served by an efficient combination of regular patrol deputies along with deputy reserves and volunteers who serve at reduced costs to Carson City taxpayers.
Sheriff Furlong said it is quite common in Nevada to have a crowded field of candidates for Sheriff. He said “It wouldn’t surprise me if there weren’t a couple more out there waiting to announce.”

Passion, conviction, character, morality, and drive is what I see in this young man. I can see he truely wants to make a difference and that its no status thing with him.
a true candidate for the top office is very nice to see.
