Very quick, if not heroic action by sheriff’s deputies prevented a Winnie Lane resident from lighting himself on fire in front of his neighbors, including children. Reports say the man had been fighting with family member and at one point used a knife to cut himself. They say he then doused himself with kerosene, and went outside to light himself off. By then the commotion had drawn a gathering of passersby and neighbors, some with children in tow.
Arriving sheriff’s deputies approached the man quickly and managed to calm him down enough to where they could get close enough to get him on the ground, and immobilized. The deputies no doubt stopped what could have been a horrific sight for all gathered, somebody turning themselves into a flaming dying person with all the attendent trauma and shock for everyone caught watching, including a number of small children.
Carson City deputies do it all.
The man was transported to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
