City Supervisors finalized their agreement with Toyota dealer Dick Campagni today. Campagni said there were some delays in getting under construction but the snags have been worked out. Campagni told the Supervisors he will be open for business with his new Toyota and Scion dealerships by the end of December of next year. Campagni will receive about four million dollars in incentive funds that will be paid back to the city through higher yield in sales taxes as the result of the upscaled facilities. Campagni also commited to keeping his dealership in Carson City for the next 20 years.
Meanwhile negotiations continue with GM dealer Michael Hohl who had been on line with what Mr. Campagni was awarded. However, with the city in a big cash crunch that earlier understanding may no longer be possible. In light of that, city officials are trying to work out a different funding strategy that would give Mr. Hohl an incentive comparable to Mr. Campagni’s along with Mr. Hohl’s agreement to keep his dealerships in Carson City for 20 years.
Sales taxes from vehicle sales make up a large portion of the ciy’s budget.
