Gov. Gibbons promises to keep his hands off local city/county tax revenues

A sigh of relief that could be heard ’round the State Capitol came from what Governor Gibbons told local city and county officials today. Gibbons said although Nevada State government is at least one billion dollars in the hole through July of 2011, he will not dip down into city and county coffers and transfer some of their funds to the state. Man who shot woman in Brunswick Canyon, leaving her for dead, sent to prison for 20 years

A Carson City man who was angry at a woman for allegedly stealing money from him and who left her bleeding from a gunshot wound in her back in Brunswick Canyon last summer was sentenced Monday to 20 years in prison. Read the rest of this entry »

Obama budget: Bye Bye Yucca Mountain

After 23 years of non-stop controversy, Yucca Mountain appears to be at the end of the road. The notoriously bitter battle over whether to store nation’s nuclear power plant and other radioactive waste under the mountain 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas ends with President Obama’s budget he’s submitting to Congress.
