It ws a pretty evenly matched game up until the bottom of the 5th, but after that, the Grizzlies hit the juice and showed the Senators their tail lights. Carson loses to Galena 12-8 in the first round of the Northern Nevava 4A tournament. It means if Carson is to make it to the State Championship, they have to become animals for the next three games. Coach Steve Cook said the Senators played very good ball for most of the game, but also praised the Grizzlies for being a fine ball team. Cook said one home run hit by the Grizzlies probably shouldn’t have happened, a home run that drove in 3 runs…the majority of the winning magin in the end. Cook says, you never throw a fast ball to that guy.
The Grizzlies go on to play the winner of today’s other Northern Nevada Tournament game. The Senators go on to play the loser. It’s a 1pm game at Damonte tomorrow.

Assemblywoman Bonnie Parnell, D, Dist. 40, filed for re-election today. Parnell predicts a very challenging session starting next February, in that lawmakers will have to think outside the box to do more, with less. She said although there’s been calls for higher taxes, she said this is not the time to do it. She said perhaps the state needs to set aside more reserve funds when times are good so that when hard times return, the state won’t find itself flat broke.
Three people were sentenced to up to five years in prison today for the brutal assault on a state parole and probation officer last November in a parking lot outside state offices on east Nye. Ray and William Nattrass and Vivian Leman were sent to prison for beating up a parole officer when he had just tried to break up their fight in the parking lot. One of the men wrestled the officer’s gun from his holster and at one point shoved it into the side of the officer’s head and said “I’m gonna kill you ____ ____. Sheriff’s deputies arrived within moments of a 9-1-1 call for help from inside the probation offices, and deputies quickly rounded up the Nattrass brothers and Leman.

And even if Democratic Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton or Republican front runner John McCain really want to lower federal gas taxes to give motorists a break, it’s been pointed out that there would be no savings for Nevada drivers. They say state law automatically raises the state gas tax to replace the dropped federal tax because Nevada doesn’t want to start transportation projects it can’t finish.
North Carson Crossing (Walmart/Home Depot)Shopping Center developer Kent Witt says he wants the Board of Supervisors to get on with his request for a 65-foot lighted freeway sign at the southeast corner of his property. Although the Supervisors have enacted a temporary freeze on such signs while the city evaluates regulations on them, Witt’s sign does not come under the moratorium since he asked permission to build it before the city took up the matter. But nearby Northridge neighborhood residents have been very vocal in their opposition to the sign. They say it should be located hundreds of feet to the north of where he wants to put it now.
