The Rockin’ Rev soon to become the Rockin’ Mayor?

May 2nd, 2008 by Dave Morgan.

As expected, Pastor Ken Haskins of the First Christian Church has thrown his rock ‘n roll AM radio into the ring saying he wants to be the next Mayor of Carson City. Haskins, whose preaching can be as serious as any and his Dee-Jaying work as good as many, says he wants to give the voters of Carson City a fresh start. Haskins says he has no personal agenda, nor hidden one, in running. He says he’d like to bring fresh ideas, including low taxes to the fore, along with an emphasis on “controlled spending” to City Hall. Haskins has been a very active member of the Kiwanis Club and has headed up his First Christian Church since 1980.

Haskins is joined by several other candidates for Mayor including Dr. Sean Lehmann, Attorney Bob Crowell, and Real Estate Broker Jim Shirk. Filings for office begin Monday.

Governor Gibbons sues First Lady Dawn for divorce - seeks her removal from the mansion

May 2nd, 2008 by Dave Morgan.

After many months of speculation, Governor Jim Gibbons has sued for divorce from his wife of 21 years, and Nevada’s current First Lady Dawn Gibbons. In filing his divorce papers, Gibbons says he and his wife are no longer compatible. He also seeks Mrs. Gibbons removal from the mansion. State law requires that the Governor reside in Carson City. After the Gibbons’ recent separation, Governor Gibbons moved temporarily to the home the two own in Reno. That’s possibly where Dawn Gibbons will find herself living shortly.

Governor Gibbons was implicated in an incident in Las Vegas last year in which he was accused of making a rather forceful pass at an attractive cocktail waitress at a Las Vegas Strip restaurant. The woman initially sought to file charges against the Governor but later backed off. So Las Vegas Metro Police said without a victim, there are no charges, and promptly dropped the matter.
